Where Did We Go?
Athi River Ministry
- The Athi River Crusade ended this evening with preaching from Dr. Paul Virts and another special music performance from Jed Culbertson.
- The Carpentry team built and installed 3 new medical shelves in the Athi VCT (AIDS) Clinic.
Huduma Ministry
- The Carpentry team prepared additional kits of materials needed for the remaining 8 bookshelves. They also moved the competed 8 into the Huduma school library so that the church can begin finishing them and loading them up with books for the kids.
- The full Door to Door team including ALL Grace team members hit the streets of Huduma in force today working Bega kwa Bega with the Huduma church. We fanned out in each direction witnessing and praying with hundreds in the Kawangware slum.
- The Crusade area was full tonight on our last evening of crusades with the Huduma Church. Pastor Troy preached to the large crowd followed by an inspiring prayer by Dr. David Kitonga. The Kingdom was increased by 211 new souls.
Celebrating God's Work in Us
Thoughts from Pastor Troy: In reflecting on this trip a few key characteristics surfaced that represent the spirit of this team:
- Your work ethic has truly amazed me. You continually displayed flexibility and positive attitudes even in the face of constantly changing schedules.
- You are motivated to pray. In every venue throughout the day I would find you huddled together praying.
- You are closing the generation gap through your servant attitudes. I love the spirit of serving you have for one another and for the Lord.
Bega Kwa Bega
Shoulder to Shoulder
Hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder we have searched the streets, homes, and back alleys of the city of Nairobi seeking the lost. We are thankful for each and every one of our brothers and sisters at the Athi River First Baptist Church and the Huduma Church. We have developed relationships with so many which will make our departure tomorrow tearful. Mungu Akubariki!
God At Work Through Us: Team Testimonials
- First time prayers: Today we celebrate with a few team members like Kierra Jackson who were able to lead someone to Christ for the first time while ministering from door to door in Huduma. Many of our team members, like Laura Thompson, have been instrumental in helping one another as we develop our evangelism skills and become more comfortable delivering the gospel message. It is truly a sign of a strong, caring, and dedicated team.
- We were ministering in the slum when a man approached us, clearly curious about what we were doing. I asked if he spoke English, and he said he did. We struck up a conversation with him while the rest of our team witnessed to a home nearby. David was his name. He told us his story of salvation that began with his son, named Michael. Three years ago Michael woke up paralyzed. No explanation could be given and no cure could be found. A year ago a Christian came and prayed for his son and he was healed. After this happened David and his wife Grace immediately committed their lives to Jesus. Now he has his own ministry working with street boys. His primary objective is providing for their physical needs and sharing Jesus with them. We want to continue to pray for David and his ministry and are hoping we can continue to stay in touch with him through Huduma.” ~Jeff Marko, Carpentry
- “I am not afraid to admit that I was scared to death to go ‘Door to Door’. I am thankful that I was paired up with an experienced team. One of the first doors we passed was closed and no one seemed to answer. We passed by it several times as we made our way through the winding alleys of the slum. Finally, when I was walking by, the door opened. I grabbed my translator and asked if we could go in. When we went inside we found four teens. I shared my testimony about struggling with alcohol. Two of them admitted that they also struggled with alcohol. Then we shared the gospel with them, and two of them accepted Christ.” ~Sandy Wyant, Women’s Team
