Where Did We Go?

Athi River Ministry

  • Grace Seminary concluded with instruction from Pastor Troy and Dr. Paul Virts. Wellington Mutiso held a graduation ceremony this afternoon. In total the Grace Seminary had 128 registered students.
  • The Athi River Crusade continued into its fifth night with preaching from Pastor Troy and special music performance from Jed Culbertson.

Huduma Ministry

  • The Children’s team concluded their 3 day program of ministering to the 1200 (corrected number) children of Huduma. The program ended with instruction on equipping the children with tools to share the gospel through the wordless bracelet. A combined Grace team of Dustin Kelm, Music and Children’s delivered a dynamic presentation to the whole school.
  • The Carpentry team had another in depth bible study with both carpentry and dress making students. The devotion lasted 2 hours with many thoughtful questions being asked by the students. The team will complete 8 bookshelves with another 8 ready for students to complete.
  • The Door to Door team had another great Bega kwa Bega day today. No street corner in Nairobi is immune from the gospel with this team on the loose! They simply do not know how to idle, they are on fire to share the Lord, which today resulted in 155 new decisions
  • The Music team visited the Nairobi West Prison today and ministered to over 100 prisoners with drama, Dustin Kelm, testimonies, music and the gospel. 10 clients and 1 guard came to Christ.
  • The Crusade grounds were once again filled with song from both the Huduma and Grace church choirs. Dave delivered a great message, ending with a call to receive Christ. 120 indicated first time decisions.

Highlighted Ministry:

Medical

The medical team conducted a 2 day medical clinic in conjunction with the Huduma clinic in the Kawangware slum. The Huduma clinic nurse, Elizabeth typically holds a free medical clinic every 3 months. The medical condition of the people in this area are significantly worse than that of the Athi River area. Among other things, Malaria cases were much higher. Together with Elizabeth the Grace team of Joyce Ard, Susan Spiegle and Trista Wotochek saw 466 patients. Including Athi River, the team saw 1,718 people.

Women's

For the first time in our relationships with Dr. Mutiso and Dr. Kitonga we had the opportunity to create a specific ministry venue around a women’s seminar. This idea has been brewing since the summer of 2009. Carol Lynn Hayward and the Women’s team created the seminar from scratch and enlisted the accomplished key note speakers of Cheri Dobbs, Joan Kenworthy and Alice Moss. The Women’s team conducted 3 seminars in total, two at Athi River and one at Huduma. 200-300 women were blessed through this ministry. The seminars consisted of testimonies from the team, key note speakers, small group discussions, prayers and worship. Some of the topics ranged from forgiveness to salvation to trusting in God’s provision. In addition to the women’s seminar, the women’s team is also the backbone of our prayer strategy. They are prayer warriors!

God At Work Through Us: Team Testimonials

  • In ministering to the prisoners at Nairobi West Prison, one of the “clients” told the team that they were the “forgotten ones” of their society. He was deeply touched that we did not forget them and that we traveled all this way to be with them. The prison performance was a powerful experience for both the prisoners and our team.
  • Today at the women’s seminar Carol Lynn Hayward spoke with a woman who was a single mom that had committed her life to the Lord a year ago. She used to be a prostitute and still struggles with temptation to return to the profession when her child is hungry and she cannot feed him. The message today regarding trusting in the Lord for everything was a great comfort to her.
  • A woman who attended the women’s seminar on forgiveness was really wrestling with the idea of forgiveness. She was very bitter and angry toward an ex-husband who had been abusive to her. She told us today that the seminar encouraged her to reconsider her relationships with her ex-husband as well as with a neighbor whom she had a fight with and was not speaking to. After the seminar she went to her neighbor and told her what she heard. She told her that she wanted them to forgive each other. She said to her neighbor that if she did not want to forgive her that is okay. She forgave her anyway. Then she told her children what she heard and said she was going to call their father and tell him she forgives him. She was truly a transformed woman. ~Sandy Wyant,, Women’s Team
