Where Did We Go?

Athi River Ministry

At Athi River today our team provided for every aspect of need from the spiritual to the physical.

  • MED: The team saw 500 patients today. In total the medical team saw 1200 patients in the 3 day clinic .
  • The Pastoral Development seminar continued with instruction from George Kenworthy.
  • The Grace Church Thanksgiving offering provided $5k USD to purchase food packets which we distributed to 3,300 of the poorest in the Athi River area. 200 of which also prayed to receive Christ.
  • Door to Door was on fire again witnessing to hundreds and leading 331 people to Christ.
  • The Music team and Dustin Kelm presented music, testimonies at two local schools as well as a factory. The factory would not let us into the compound so we set up on the street next to the unemployment line! 29 turned their lives over to Christ.

Huduma Ministry

  • Festival of Learning: Pastor Dave and Paul Virts rounded out the Festival today, which concluded with a formal “graduation ceremony”. Grace provided official certificates with the students name, which they received as they shook hands with Pastor Dave and Dr. David Kitonga. They were overwhelmed with gratitude and were greatly blessed by the 2 days of intense pastoral training.
  • The Children’s program started with a big bang today with 2 large assemblies, class instruction, games, and a gospel presentation. 700+ students attended and 12 of them prayed to receive Christ.
  • Carpentry continued to make progress on re-finishing desks and building bookshelves for the library. Our primary safety policy is 10 and 2. Start with 10 fingers and 2 eyes, finish with 10 fingers and 2 eyes!
  • Highlighted Ministry:

    Pastoral Development

This week the Pastoral Development team of Troy Dobbs, Dave Gibson, Caryl Hayward, George Kenworthy, and Paul Virts provided in depth biblical instruction to 210+ pastors at both the Grace Seminary of Athi River, and Festival of Learning at Huduma Church. Seminar topics include: Personal Evangelism, Discipleship & Spiritual Formation, Creating Biblical Strategies for Ministry, Sermon Preparation, and much more. Each student received a comprehensive course book with reference materials that they can continue to use as they apply their new skills. The response from the students has been overwhelming. For many, this is the most significant biblical training they have ever received. One student asked if he could enroll in the Grace Church Seminary! We clarified that there was no such thing and that this material was prepared specifically for them. They simply could not believe this.

Bega Kwa Bega (Shoulder to Shoulder)

The Grace Door to Door team was getting ready to take off for the crusade grounds tonight when one of the translators stopped us and told us that they wanted to bless us as it was our last night to be together. They invited us into the church and shared a soda with us. We sat in a circle and shared how the Lord had worked through us during the 3 days we had together. It was a special time of fellowship with many touching stories. These translators have been security, support, and encouragement for us. Many of them are accomplished at sharing the gospel and would not need us to share the word. Yet the most common thing we heard from the Kenyans was how impressed they were with our boldness in sharing Christ. It was a difficult good-bye for our new friends.

God At Work Through Us: Team Testimonials

    • Jeremiah 32:27 "Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?"

The Bible is full of accounts in which God went before people and provided for them. Dr. George Kenworthy was scheduled to preach multiple times during the week., but during Sunday’s Athi River church service he was prompted by God to be ready for additional preaching. The next day George was asked to fill in at the crusade as the featured speaker. This request came two hours before he would need to leave for the crusade. he had just come back to the hotel after a very demanding day, which left him no chance to prepare a sermon,. George obeyed the call went to the Crusade, trusting that the Lord had gone before him. He delivered a wonderful message after which the Lord saved 28 people! God is an amazing God to prepare us in advance for our part in his work, and George himself to be a faithful servant.

    • This afternoon at Huduma, Shale Siewert noticed a woman that was standing alone in the schoolyard. She was there to pick up her child. Shale was moved to speak with her, so he approached her to share his testimony with her. He then proceeded to share the gospel through the wordless bracelet. He asked her if she would like to pray to receive Christ and she seemed interested, yet she hesitated. He encouraged her to follow him in prayer to accept Him, which she did! We love the boldness of our team to reach out to anyone, regardless of age or situation.

Please pray for the following:

  • A number of our people have fallen prey to the normal travelers’ physical maladies. Some of these are not able to leave the hotel and join us.
  • We are in the middle of our time here now, and people are physically tired from long days of ministry.
  • Renewed energy and vision
  • Physical strength
  • That the new 452 first time believers will not fall away, and will find a good Bible church to attend
  • That we would have good attendance as we start the crusades at Huduma starting on Thursday
